- cnote /ˈsiː.noʊt/ noun
-
A note a stranger pins to a passage on any web page. It shows to everyone once people with different perspectives rate it helpful, which is rarer than it should be.
The press release had three cnotes by lunch and a correction by never.
From community note, by way of connote and annotate. Also a C-note, the hundred-dollar bill, about what it costs to read the news now. Hence ¢.
Usage: Whether a cnote has ever changed anyone’s mind is disputed. See note 1, above.
No email, no profile, no followers. A handle is all you get, so you’ll have to be right on the merits. Notes are anonymous to readers.
¢ is how cnote decides who gets to write. You start with 5¢. A note of yours that ends up rated helpful earns 10¢, and one rated not helpful costs 5¢. Rating a note the way it ends up earns 1¢. Writing takes at least 1¢. Only you see your ¢, and nobody can buy more.
Gold (g) does nothing. You get 1g when someone creates an account from a link you shared, and that’s the only way to get it.
